Introduction: Mike Routledge is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Leicester, Medical School in the United Kingdom. Recent research has focused on using biomarkers to measure fungal toxin exposure and assess the health risks associated with such exposure, particularly in sub–Saharan Africa. Prior to this, Associate Professor Mike Routledge's research focused on the toxicity of urban particulate matter and engineered nanoparticles, particularly the impact of urban particulate matter generated by air pollution on cardiovascular health. He has received funding worth over £4 million (including grants from the European Union, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, EPSRC, and YCR), published over 100 SCI papers (Scopus H-index 30), and presented at numerous international conferences and invited seminars. Associate Professor Mike Routledge conducted international collaborative research with colleagues from China, Japan, France, the United States, Pakistan, Gambia, and Tanzania, and was appointed as a member of the International Group (International Atomic Energy Agency, East African Community, African Aflatoxin Control Partnership, European Food Standards Agency Working Group) and the Toxicity Committee of the Food Standards Agency. He mainly engaged in research on molecular epidemiology, particle toxicity, and mycotoxins, including interdisciplinary international cooperation projects.
