International student in school of food and biological engineering published a paper in international leading journal

Gustav Komla Mahunu is a PhD student from Ghana, currently studying in the School of food and Biological Engineering since November, 2012, under the supervision of Professor Hongyin Zhang. As a first author, he published a paper with the topic “Biological Control of Patulin by Antagonistic Yeast: A case study and possible model” in the Journal of Critical Review in Microbiology, one of the leading journal in microbiology with current impact factor: 6.09 (http://informahealthcare.com/doi/abs/10.3109/1040841X.2015.1009823). Critical Reviews in Microbiology is an international journal of Microbiology research authority, a year four periods, each 5-8, article just published a year less than 30 authoritative commentary in the field of Microbiology at the forefront of research papers. The paper discussed very critical issues Patulin as an important mycotoxin in Postharvest diseases management and possible approaches to improve the mechanisms of its degradation.

Professor Hong-yin Zhang led a research group engaged in the biological control research work of postharvest diseases of fruits. He successively undertook the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the sub-project of the National 863 Plan, Doctoral fund projects of the Ministry of Education (tutors), Jiangsu province Science and Technology support plan (agricultural) projects, Natural Science Foundation of Jiangsu province, Scientific Research Staring Foundation for the Returned Overseas Chinese Scholars, Ministry of Education of China, Project of the Six Big Top Talent in Jiangsu province and more than 20 kinds of projects, including more than 10 national and provincial projects. He has also achieved relevant research results at home and abroad with publications in more than 70 core journals including the Critical Reviews in Microbiology, Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, Food Chemistry, International Journal of Food Microbiology, Food Control, Postharvest Biology and Technology, and other authoritative Journal in the areas of the Food science and Microbiology. SCI included 34 papers, eight papers in EI, three invited review papers published on international journals, apply for 12 national invention patents, 6 items have already been licensed, gained six provincial scientific research awards. School of Food and Biological Engineering has always attaches great importance to the education for foreign students, and he is one of the earliest researcher to develop overseas study in postgraduate education unit in Jiangsu university. So far, the food and biological engineering institute has trained 1 foreign postdoctoral, 5 doctoral and 1 master's graduate students; Reading 2 foreign postdoctoral, doctoral candidate at seven, three masters.
