International Students Experience the Charm of Chinese Baking Culture in Food Processing Classroom

To enrich international students’ campus life and enhance their understanding and appreciation of Chinese culinary culture, the School of Food and Biological Engineering at Jiangsu University recently organized a cultural experience activity themed on cake and pizza making in Laboratory Room 412. The event was personally guided by Ms. Liu Xingrong, aiming to let international students experience the joy of food preparation and the unique charm of Chinese baking culture through hands-on practice.

At the event, Ms. Liu first explained the entire process of making cakes and pizzas, including ingredient preparation, dough fermentation, baking temperature control, and decoration techniques. The students then followed her demonstrations to practice by themselves. From kneading the dough to rolling, shaping, and decorating, every step was filled with freshness and excitement.

During the activity, the students not only learned basic baking skills but also gained insights into the integration of Chinese culinary traditions with Western-style baking innovations. A student from Vietnam said, “Making cakes and pizzas by myself allowed me to experience the richness of campus life in China and to appreciate the culture and creativity behind food.” Another student from Serbia remarked, “The teacher’s guidance was very detailed. We learned not only the technical skills but also a deeper understanding of food science and culture.”

Ms. Liu encouraged the students to be creative and imaginative in decorating their cakes and selecting pizza toppings. The students’ works were colorful and diverse in design, creating a lively and joyful atmosphere in the room. Through this practical experience, the international students deeply felt the charm of combining food science with artistic creativity, while also enhancing their sense of belonging to Chinese campus culture and lifestyle.

This cultural experience activity not only enriched the learning life of international students but also reflected the School’s dedication to practical teaching and international exchange. The School will continue to organize diverse experiential activities to foster mutual understanding between Chinese and international students, promoting cultural exchange and lasting friendship.
