Professor Angel Medina Vaya from Cranfield University (UK) gave lectures at FBE

On November 7, 2023, Professor Angel Medina Vaya from the Applied Mycology Group at Cranfield University (UK) visited FBE and gave an enlightening lecture on the topic “What climate change means on fungi, mycotoxins, food and feed safety in Asia”. Prof. Cunshan Zhou, the vice dean of FBE, hosted the lecture at meeting room 506 in Wenhua building. This meeting was open to young teachers and overseas students.

Prof. Angel Medina Vaya is the Head of the Applied Mycology Group and the director of Environment and Agrifood Theme at Cranfield University (UK). He has published 125 SCI papers, 14 book chapters and has the H-factor of 35 (Scopus). Prof. Angel Medina Vaya has focused his research interests on the impact of environmental stress on the function of fungi (mainly mycotoxigenic species) and molecular secondary metabolite production, especially mycotoxins and other relevant metabolites for industrial applications. Additionally, Prof. Angel Medina Vaya highlighted the alarming impact of climate change on crop production and the subsequent rise in mycotoxin contamination in Asian countries.

Prof. Angel Medina Vaya’s lecture shed light on the intricate relationship between the changing climatic patterns and the proliferation of harmful substances in agricultural products. This enlightening lecture served as a reminder of the urgency to address climate change and its far-reaching consequences on food supply.
