Outstanding International Student-DESMOND (Gao Fei)

DESMOND (Gao Fei) is an international student from Ghana (West Africa), who came to Jiangsu University in 2018 as a Master's student to study in the School of Food and Biological Engineering under Jiangsu University Presidential Scholarship. During the postgraduate period, he served as the PG Leader of the School of Food and Biological engineering as well as School of Mechanical engineering students. He was enthusiastic to help students and assist teachers in managing class affairs and was unanimously recognized by teachers and students. As a result of my outstanding academic performance and love for voluntary duties, usually outstanding, in our college won the "best presentation" honorary title, in a class research presentation competition. In 2022, he was awarded the highly esteemed Outstanding Graduate Award.

DESMOND took a keen interest in the Chinese language and Chinese culture and actively participated in and sometimes helped to organize cultural exchange activities between Chinese and international students. Additionally,  he actively participated in various activities organized by the school, such as scientific research, sports, innovation and entrepreneurship, and voluntary service, and won some honours in that regard.  

DESMOND participated and was involved in the organization of the Graduation School event dubbed “Cross Culture Park’. These programs brought together Chinese and International students to interact and learn about each other's culture and language.

The program was aimed at expanding volunteerism to help students in entrepreneurship through vocational skills through training and field trips]. The summer research competition was organized, for which DESMOND participated and won honours.

[In the spirit of having a balanced life with a healthy body by keeping fit, DESMOND participated in sports. His team, ‘Elite FC’ won the JSU Summer competition in 2018]

In addition, DESMOND participated in the Jiangsu university and Graduate School English Speech competition in 2020 and won a prize.

In 2019, he and some friends represented the Overseas Education College of Jiangsu University to participate in the Jiangsu University New Year Gala dubbed ‘embark on a new journey and continue to write the new chapter’

DESMOND became the leader of the OEC-HeART Psychological Association of International Students and the Postgraduate leader for the School of Food Science and Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. A role he served voluntarily and with much passion and dedication to the admiration of his peers and teachers

DESMOND participated in voluntary community outreach programs. These programs sought to keep the spirits of the Jiangsu university and the communities in unison. The community members cherished the love and hard work of our volunteers.

In 2021, he participated in the Jiangsu university 11th International Cultural Festival and the post - ICF event with the dignitaries, company executives, and school leaders

In addition, DESMOND participated in various academic conferences. He participated in the 10th Sino- Foreign Postgraduate Academic forum of Jiangsu University and ‘The 5th International Conference on Processing and Preservation of Fresh food’

DESMOND (Gao Fei) has successfully graduated from his program of study.  . He was a student in Professor Ren Xiaofeng's research group and co-supervised by Associate Professor Wang Bo. In the spirit of learning and scientific research coupled with understanding and innovative awareness of his study, he had 2 scientific papers with 1 co-authorship. With the knowledge and experiences gained through the able mentorship of his supervisors, he intends to further broaden his horizon through Ph.D studies. In the busy scientific research work, he still actively participated in the school organization of scientific research, sports, and other voluntary services. Since 2019, he has been a part-time counselor and is enthusiastic to help international students solve problems in their studies and daily life, and as the leader of the OEC-HeART Psychological Association of International Students, he was of immense help during the COVID-19 pandemic.
