Seminar on “A systematic literature review and developing Good Research Proposals”

Edit: 王书彦 Time: 2022-11-25 Hits:

Jiangsu University always encourages its faculty members and postdocs to grab the funding opportunities offered by national and provincial funders. However, it is often a challenging task, especially for young researchers, to get their research proposals on the right track, as well as to receive positive feedback from expert reviewers. In this context, an interactive discussion on techniques and strategies for writing good proposals would be important to improve the relevant knowledge and skills of potential grant applicants. Such a discussion will be equally important and insightful for the researchers to improve their research activities both in terms of quality and outcomes. With this in mind, FBE is going to organize regular seminars to discuss different aspects of research activities, including designing good research projects, applying for external funding, and conducting output-oriented research programs, where faculty members and postdocs will share their experiences on a common platform.

For the prospective seminar to be held on 1st December 2022, one faculty member and one Post Doctor researcher of FBE Dr. Haroon Elrasheid Tahir and Dr. Ngolong Ngea Guillaume Legrand will present their research activities and experience in writing project proposals based on their success stories in NSFC.

Mainly they will address the following perspectives in their presentations:

Introducing their research fields with relevant outcomes and significance.

How managing language can help us write an effective proposal and paper?

How to write a systematic review and meta-analysis?

Date and time: 1st December 2022   Time: 4:10-5:30 pm

Venue: 302 Meeting Room,FBE

Short biographies of Dr Haroon Elrasheid Tahir and Dr Ngolong Ngea Guillaume Legrand

Dr. Haroon Elrasheid Tahir is currently working as an associate professor at the School of Food and Biological Engineering. He previously worked as a Food Chemist at Food Safety Laboratory in Sudan from 2006-2013. He also worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Jiangsu University from 2016-2019. He received his Ph.D. in Food Science and Engineering from Jiangsu University, China. He received his MSc in food science and technology from the Sudan University of Science & Technology Khartoum, Sudan, and his M.P.H from Open University Malaysia, Malaysia. He received his BSc (Hons.) in Food Science and Technology from ALzaiem ALAzhari University, Sudan. His main research activities include Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals, Sensory evaluation of food products, postharvest quality of fruits and vegetables, and sensors for food quality. During his tenure at JSU, he received an “International Young Scientist Research Grant” from NSFC (ranked#1 among the foreigners at JSU) and a China Postdoctoral Science Foundation grant (ranked #1 among the foreigners at JSU and # 36 among the foreigners in China). He has published more than 66 articles in peer-reviewed journals, 27 book chapters, and 1 book.

Dr. Ngolong Ngea Guillaume Legrand is currently working as a post-doctoral fellow at the School of Food and Biological Engineering. He obtained his PhD in Biochemistry and Microbiology at the University of Yaoundé 1, Cameroon, and did his research at INRAE, France. He contributes to increase the collaboration between Jiangsu University and many Cameroonian universities such as IUSTY (Institut Universitaire des Sciences et Techniques de Yaounde) and ‘Institut des Sciences Halieutiques’ (ISH, University of Douala). At Jiangsu University, his research focuses on food safety in general and is interested in the control of mycotoxin contamination using lactic acid bacteria. More precisely, he works on (1) the identification of potential lactic strains and their interest in the degradation of mycotoxins, (2) the prevention or protection of fruit juices against mycotoxin contamination using lactic bacteria, and (3) the securing of fruits against mycotoxin contamination by biological control strategies. Regarding biological control, his research focuses on the different bio-control mechanisms of bacteria and yeasts at the molecular level, and on the different strategies used to improve the efficiency of biocontrol of lactic acid bacteria. To this end, he has been granted NSFC funding and his NSFC-funded project was aimed at using Leuconostoc sp. to control the mycotoxin patulin in commercial fruit juices. His long-term research goals are to promote safety and improve fruit quality using biocontrol bacteria.
